To assist local families living with a child that is face with a life threatening illness. To better the services and resources of our local oncology clinic to create the best possible place for our children who are living at a second home at the VGH on a day to day basis. To win the race again all childhood cancers!
We are committed to assisting those families in financial need while undergoing a life changing experience. A family functions differently once learning of their child’s illness. Typically one parent is unable to work outside the home as they are needed to assist their child who is ill. There are additional challenges around supporting other children in their family, dealing with typical day to day functions and the lack of ability to be physically able to interact in public due to the high level of concern of infections as most children will go through long periods of time where they have a suppressed immune system.
We want to assist these families in coping with their ‘new life’ and lesson the financial burden.
We want to support our local oncology ward and ensure our island families, the current and the new ones to come are provided with the best care possible close to home. Through providing research assistance, training for current personel and assisting in the purchases of necessary equipment our local hospital can be better equipped to help our kids…and keep them home with their families while they endure their new life schedule; a cancer treatment protocol.
